HRINZ Weekly Wrap-up 28 September – 4 October

From our desks to your screen, here is the week that was for the HRINZ Office Team.

October is shaping up to be a big month here at HRINZ, and one with a rather celebratory feel to it. Let’s hope that it’s all topped off by an All Blacks victory at the World Cup Final on the 31st!

First up, our largest branch, Auckland Branch, is turning the big 3-0 this month and to mark the occasion they have organised a range of exciting events to take place all throughout October. If you’re in the Auckland region, make sure you get along to at least one of these and join in the celebration! 30 years is a fine achievement, so congratulations Auckland Branch!

Speaking of achievements and celebrations, the 2016 NZ HR Awards launched yesterday, an event which is all about recognising excellence within the HR profession in New Zealand. With two new categories added this year, there will be 17 awards up for grabs at the Presentation Dinner on 25 February. The event was a great success last year, so naturally we’re hoping this year will be even bigger and better! We know there’s some amazing work going on out there in organisations across the country, we hear about it in the office all the time, so don’t be a shy Kiwi, throw your hat in the ring and share your story with us – there’s really nothing to lose!

Keeping on the theme of success and contribution, in September we also received a number of applications from professional members to become Associate Fellows or Fellows of the Institute. A new process was introduced this year whereby members put themselves forward for this honour and an announcement of any new Associate Fellows or Fellows will be made in early 2016.

Keeping us busy over the next six weeks is the implementation of our new learning management system with ELMO Talent Management Software. You may recall we announced this exciting new initiative a couple of weeks ago, and work is already underway for a planned launch in November. More information will be coming shortly, so keep an eye on your inbox for that one!

You might also keep an eye on you letterbox for the Oct/Nov issue of HumanResources which should be arriving any day now. This issue features NZ HR Conference recaps from our wonderful Student Ambassadors, as well as articles on leadership, training and development and a piece from Dr Ganesh Nana of BERL Economics.

Finally, I’m looking for some new contributors for the HRINZ blog, so if you’ve got something interesting to say (but not something to sell!) then I’d love to hear from you. No need to be a writing pro or a guru on the latest technology, you just need to be passionate and prepared to give it a go.

So, have a fabulous weekend HRINZers,  enjoy the school holidays if you’re taking a family break (and enjoy the reduced traffic if you’re not!).

Until next time,

Gabby
